Kollur/ Kolluru is a village and a Mandal in Guntur district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. [1]

Geography

Kollur is the mandal headquarter of kolluru mandal located at the bank of krishna river, in the Guntur district, is located at .[2]. In Kollur there is a Shiva temple located in the middle of the village. It is the oldest temple facing towards the East. There is also a 200 year old Lord Vishnu temple facing towards the South. The famous Telugu lyricist Sri Veturi Sundara Rama Murthy was born in this village. There is also a high school which was constructed in 1894.

This village is famous for manufacturing bricks. Every year millions of bricks are manufactured and supplied to nearby districts. There are around 400 trucks owned by the local citizens. From here, bricks are transported to far off places like Hyderabad, etc. The Brick industry was started by Sri. Koganti Venkata Rattaiah. The village is very peaceful and nice place. The Krishna river is just 4 km in distance from Kollur.

Income Source: Major income source is agriculture, People cultivate paddy(rice), banana( chakrakeli), turmeric, pulses(minumulu, pesalu), corn, vegetables etc. Another major source of income is Brick manufacturing; the soil which is available at the bank of Krishna river is very good to make bricks. Kolluru bricks are considered the best bricks to construct houses.

Temples : Very old Chinthalamma temple considered as amma for the entire village, Sivalayam, Vishnalayam, Kanaka Durga Gudi, Rama Mandiram, Anjaneya Gudi. Very famous Rama temple known to be established by the Gods in Avulavaripalem near to Kollur. A few churches. Hindus, Muslims, Christians all live in the village like brothers.

Historic Significance: The Oldest epic-drama "Chintamani" is the real story of this village and the Bhavani Sankaram from Srikakulam of Krishna District was from the other side of River Krishna. The Heroine Chintamani lived in this village. It used to be one of the major agrahaarams during satavaahanas era when Srikakulam(in krishna district) was their capital.
